Semington Parish Tennis Court

Rules and Etiquette for Users

The free tennis court, along St George’s Road, is managed by Semington Parish Council and can be used by all residents of the parish and their guests.
To gain access, we request that players register with us to obtain the padlock code and agree to this list of Dos and Don’ts.
This has been necessitated because of repeated antisocial behaviour at the court.  Despite this we would like to keep the tennis court available for all registered villagers to enjoy, without the need for prior booking, whilst preserving the peace of our village and its residents.
Your consideration for your neighbours is expected and appreciated and you have a part to play in helping us to achieve our “open for play” aims, by enjoying your game while complying with following Court Etiquette and Rules for Use.

Padlock & Code

The padlock code will be issued once you’ve sent an email with the following information:

* Your address.
* A contact phone number.
* Confirmation that you’ve read and agreed to the terms of use as set out below.
* Confirmation that you agree to us keeping your contact details on file.

During play, please leave the padlock attached to the gate, having closed its lock, and leave it secure by spinning the numbers. As well as protecting the code, this will minimise the risk of the padlock going home with you – Should that happen, please return and secure the court immediately.

Do not pass the padlock code onto anyone.

Do not let players into the court after you’ve finished play, if they do not also have the padlock code. Instead, let them know how they can access the code, as you have done. (Details are on the gate-sign) If they haven’t yet registered, they won’t know this etiquette and we’d risk a repeat of upset and disturbance for nearby residents.

If the code is changed for any reason, all registered users will be advised of the new number via email.

Hours of Use

Out of consideration for all villagers, (and particularly for the bedtimes of our youngest residents) play is permitted during daylight hours from 9am and not later than 8.30pm. Winter will naturally shorten the hours of play.

Please don’t hog the court if others are waiting to play. Instead, keep your total court time to a maximum of one hour and let them know how long you’ll be. If you’ve already exceeded an hour of play, please give way to them. Or maybe start a game of doubles!

Play Nice

All the anti social behaviours below have caused recent disturbance, upset and complaints so sorry… but here goes..

Play tennis, not music. Not everyone has your passion for Kanye West, Celine Dion, The Wurzels etc. and there’s no need to share it here.
Take your litter home with you – I know you’re rolling your eyes… so did we!
Mind your language. Enough said, really.
Keep noise to a minimum, reasonable level and no grunting – unless you are actually Sharipova or Alcaraz.
Do not pass the code on to anyone – they really do need to register to access the tennis court.
No dogs are permitted inside the court fence. (Sorry – Fido – get your own tennis balls!)
No smoking, vaping or consuming alcohol or drugs in the court. No butts. (see what we did there?)
No parking – in the adjacent car park, which is for the sole use of St George’s Court residences.

If you have any questions or a concern regarding the tennis court, please send it to us via the Contact Us page and we’ll respond as quickly as possible.

With your help, understanding and co-operation we can keep this village asset available for all to use.

Thank you.
