Meet The Council

Peter Smith

Chair

I moved to Semington in 2014, and loved the great community spirit here. I want to help harness community working to protect what we want protected, improve what we want improved, and help the village to thrive.

William Scott

Councillor

I have lived on Pound Lane since the late 1980s and have a particular interest in planning issues, keeping rights of way open, and wildlife gardening.

Colin Wade

Councillor

I have lived in Semington since the 1980s and want to see the rural nature of the village preserved with access to the countryside  which is safe for all users including walkers, cyclists and horse riders.  I want to ensure the village hall continues to be a well supported and used community asset.

Jacqui Hailey

Councillor

I’m Jacqui and I moved to Semington in 2017, and have never looked back – one of my aims is to keep Semington such a wonderful place to live. I am a keen walker and enjoy photography and wildlife – you’ll often see me walking through the village, along the canal and the neighbouring fields.

Catherine McGarvey

Councillor

I came to live in Semington in 2018 and very quickly it felt like home; largely because of its friendly, welcoming vibe. Most of my career has been in broad-ranging sectors of Industrial Sales, but the best part of my job has always been meeting and collaborating with Customers, Colleagues and Suppliers; working towards respective aims, some varied and some common.
I want to help to maintain and protect, as well as to nurture and develop, the infrastructure for our community, to cherish our beautiful surrounds, and the spirit of Semington.

Siobhan Chown

Councillor

I’ve lived in Semington since 2020 and I love it’s sense of community spirit. I’ve worked in the Arts all my life and have a particular interests in education, children’s physical and mental wellbeing and the environment.

Richard Bruges

Councillor

Born in Semington, I moved away in the 1980s and returned in 2012.  My business life is in green product development and my interests include the environment, rural life and the smallholding we operate at Brook House.  I aim to bring my experience of business and other communities to my involvement with the council.

Mark Carberry

Councillor

I moved to Semington in 2022 and have great experience in working within small communities to improve facilities and morale.

I love the authentic feel of the village and surrounding areas, which I wish to maintain whilst attempting to improve communication and participation amongst the great people who live here.

Georgina Berry

Clerk

Further Information

Becoming a Councillor

We are always keen to hear from people who live in the Parish and would like to explore joining Semington Parish Council.  If you want to find out what is involved, a great way to start is to attend a few meetings.  Any of the existing councillors will also be happy to discuss their role.  Formal elections are held every four years as part of the local elections process.  However, members are not obliged to stay for the full term and councillors do resign due to other commitments, or because they feel they have done their bit.  We therefore occasionally have vacancies.  To register your interest in becoming a Parish Councillor, please contact the Clerk.

Register of Interests

Parish Council Members are obliged to complete a Register of Interests, which can be viewed on the Wiltshire Council website.  We also declare any conflicts of interest at the beginning of meetings, based on the agenda.
